Welcome to Kawartha Lakes — one of Ontario's most beautiful and welcoming regions. Whether you've moved from the GTA, another province, or across town, this guide will help you settle in quickly, connect with your new community, and feel at home within your first 30 days.
Days 1–7
Week 1
The Essentials — Get the Must-Dos Done First
Your first week is all about getting the official boxes ticked so everything else falls into place. These tasks are time-sensitive and will make your life much easier once completed.
💡 Local Tip
The ServiceOntario centre in Lindsay is located at 322 Kent Street West and is open Monday to Friday. Arriving early in the morning means shorter wait times. Bring two pieces of ID and proof of your new address (a utility bill or lease agreement works perfectly).
🏛️
ServiceOntario Lindsay
322 Kent Street West, Lindsay Mon–Fri 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Week two is about connecting with the services that keep your household running — healthcare providers, schools for children, and learning what Kawartha Lakes City Hall can do for you.
🏥 Healthcare Tip
Finding a family doctor can take time in smaller communities. While you wait, Ross Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department is at 10 Angeline Street North, Lindsay. Several walk-in clinics also operate in Lindsay for non-emergency care.
By week three you should be settled enough to start enjoying your new home. This is the week to explore, connect, and discover what makes Kawartha Lakes one of Ontario's most beloved communities.
🤝 Community Tip
Kawartha Lakes has a genuinely warm, welcoming culture. Don't be shy about introducing yourself to neighbours — people here look out for each other. A wave and a hello goes a long way. If you have children, the school yard and local hockey rink are some of the fastest ways to build community connections.
Some of the best local spots to explore in your first weeks:
🎭
Academy Theatre
Historic 1892 theatre on William Street, Lindsay — live shows, concerts, and community events year-round
By the end of your first month you should feel genuinely at home. Week four is about tying up loose ends, looking ahead, and making sure your home and lifestyle are set up for all four of Kawartha's spectacular seasons.
